February 2019
Some of the best things in life come in pairs. Trousers. Eyes. Comedians. Pears. Although, to be fair, the last two often work best as a single act. The first two, not so. Unless you're a pirate. However, for the boys and girls of the East Neuk Model Club, it was engines that was the name of the game - providing they came as a twinset - jets, rotors, props, anything goes as long as there's two of them and indeed, there were some fine pairs on display!
But our competition wasn't the only entertainment of the night, young Dave Montgomery, curator of the Scottish Museum of Plastic Models, brought along some amazing relics from his collection and gave us a thoroughly fascinating talk on the birth of what has become the construction kit hobby we know and love today, including one model, whose construction contained a surprising piece of history...
The overall results of the competition were:
1st - Bruce - 1/48 F-111 Aardvark
2nd - Kevin - 1/48 Mosquito
3rd - Gary - 1/48 Do-335A
4th - Alastair - 1/144 Beaufighter
5th - Alex - 1/72 Belvedere
